Leftist leadership: rhetoric that kills

Note that the leaders of the movement are never on scene when one of the people who takes their rhetoric seriously ends up dead.

Lewis Dovland | January 9, 2026

The death of the 37-year-old driver, Renee Good, in Minnesota, shot by an ICE agent, rests squarely with the progressive-left movement—and more specifically with its leadership. Local officials such as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Governor Tim Walz, and Democrats in leadership positions at both the state and national levels bear responsibility for creating the conditions that led to this tragedy.

My heart breaks at the thought that Renee got played and died for a false cause, and leaves a young, orphaned son behind. And it angers me that others did it to her.

The public response from the left has been predictable: somber statements, performative outrage, and plenty of carefully staged grief. But behind those crocodile tears is a far darker reality. Many on the progressive left are quietly pleased. They hope this death can be elevated into a new political martyrdom moment they can exploit, ala George Floyd.

Critics will ask: if she was alone in the car and allegedly drove it toward an ICE agent, why blame anyone else for her actions?

Because leadership matters—and because this is precisely how the modern left operates. The dominant narrative treats the deceased exclusively as a victim while avoiding discussion of agency, decision-making, or inducement.

Their leaders never get their hands dirty. They rarely attend protests unless they are behind a podium. They never throw rocks, never face tear gas, and never risk arrest or injury. Instead, they outsource risk to others, such as Renee. They incite from a distance while remaining insulated from consequences.

The movement itself consists of four distinct groups: Leaders, Funders, On-the-ground Organizers, and rank-and-file activists and/or useful idiots.
