Schumer Won’t Rule Out Shutdown, Says ‘Only’ Healthcare Fix Is Dem Plan

On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) responded to a question on if he’ll rule out another government shutdown over Obamacare subsidies by saying that a three-year extension put forward by Democrats is “the only way to get this done. We’re not going to get healthcare done if the Republicans stay in shambles.”

Host Jake Tapper asked, “Democrats shut down the government for 43 days last year in an effort to extend COVID-era health insurance subsidies. Those have now, obviously, expired. Millions of Americans are going to see their insurance costs rise this month. Do Democrats have a plan to address that — 1. A plan that could actually pass Congress, get Republican support? And are you willing to rule out another shutdown over that issue?”

Schumer answered, “Look, the best way to get this done is for the House on Thursday to pass the three-year extension that Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) put together in a discharge petition, and then to have Sen. John Thune (R-SD) put it on the floor, and it will pass. That’s the only way to get this done. We’re not going to get healthcare done if the Republicans stay in shambles. They don’t have their own plan. They’re divided on every type of issue, whether to privatize it. Thune and Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), the two leaders, said they wouldn’t even extend healthcare benefits by a day, let alone a month, a year, three months, three years. So, until the Republicans get their act together, we’re not going to get anything done on healthcare.”

If it's so affordable, why subsidies?

It never was affordable, and it has made health insurance and health care more expensive.

Besides, with USAID off the table, and the Daycare scams being exposed, they're going to need a new source of revenue.
Feeding cchildren seems to have its share of fraud going on, too.
How about 'home health care' or some of the various programs out  there for nursing (some are legit, some might not be)?

Sen Schumer, the Schmuck will most certainly shut the government down.  Rep Hakeem Jeffries is delusional to believe Republicans will extend subsidies for three years.  I NEVER heard this clown utter one statement that was intelligent.   He is the male version of Kamala Harris.  Both offer up unintelligible utterances of word salads.  Ugggh!

I SAY END THE SUBSIDIES, AND FOCUS ON DOING SOMETHING THAT WILL REDUCE THE COST OF HEALTHCARE.  THE ACA LEGISLATION WHICH PRODUCED OBAMACARE IS NOTHING SHORT OF AN ABOMINATION.  THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH IT WERE THROUGH THE ROOF, WITHOUT PAYING ONE DIME FOR CLAIMS. 

I WORKED ON THE PROJECT TO IMPLEMENT IT IN MISSOURI'S MEDICAID, AND THE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS SPENT JUST FOR THAT RELATIVELY SMALL STATE WAS SUCH A TERRIBLE WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY.  I SAY END IT, AND FORCE THESE WASHINGTON CLOWNS TO DEVELOP SOMETHING THAT PROVIDES CARE AT A FRACTION OF THE COST.

TRUMP SHOULD CONVENE A GROUP TO DESIGN A HEALTHCARE SYSTEM THAT IS LED BY PEOPLE WHOSE LIFE FOCUS HAS BEEN TO REDUCE THE COST OF HEALTHCARE.  AN EFFORT THAT HAS ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS WHO HAVE PROVIDED THE CLUSTER F*** WE HAVE SHOULD BE ON THE PERIFERAL EDGES AS SMEs ONLY.  DO THAT, AND WE GET QUALITY HEALTHCARE.  MAYBE!!!!!
