Ellison: Feds Helped with Fraud, But GOP in Minnesota Not Doing Enough to Help

On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D) stated that federal authorities did a good job working to crack down on fraud in the Feeding Our Future case, but Republicans in the state aren’t doing enough to help him.

In response to a question on comments on fraud he made earlier in the week, Ellison said, “Well, on the Feeding Our Future case, our office worked with the federal authorities, and that has led to mass numbers of convictions. What I was referring to is the fact that some of our state legislators were having a lot of hearings and things like that, but we couldn’t get them to help move bills that I believe, would curtail fraud in our state.”

He continued, “So it was really two different things that we were talking about right there. One had to do with the particular case of Feeding Our Future, where there was a lot of cooperation, and the other one had to do with some of our state legislators, who, I was arguing, were trying to use this as a political tool, as opposed to coming together to pass the more robust anti-fraud measures.”

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar denounced a surge of federal agents to Minneapolis targeting Somalis and other immigrants after a fraud scheme in the state, saying the Trump administration has sown "confusion and chaos."

"It's not necessary in a moment when we are trying to deal with a serious problem that needs serious people to be able to address it," Omar said Sunday on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan."

The Minneapolis area now has one of the largest concentrations of Department of Homeland Security agents in any American city in recent years. There are more than 2,400 federal agents, more than double the number of local police officers, and the federal government intends to send hundreds more.

The administration says the surge has been necessary to conduct both immigration enforcement and to investigate a growing fraud scandal in the state, the cost of which federal prosecutors estimate could top $9 billion. The scandal dates back to 2021, when Biden administration Justice Department investigators first honed in on an at least $250 million COVID-era scam revolving around the Feeding Our Future program, a case that now includes more than 75 defendants.

Yeah, well, we knew they would try to push the Fraud off the news cycle with all this crap.

We have what, 9 Billion problems floating around out there, and that needs to be addressed. That's enough money to give every person on Earth a dollar and make 1,000+ millionaires, too!

Representative Ilhan Omar has been accused of attempting to secure a $1 million earmark in a congressional spending bill for a Somali-led addiction recovery organization that shares an address with a Somali restaurant.

On Monday, lawmakers unveiled a new spending package totaling at least $174 billion. Iowa Senator Joni Ernst said her office found that Omar had earmarked $1,031,000 through the Department of Justice for an organization called Generation Hope MN. The earmark was included alongside funding requests co-led by Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith of Minnesota.

Ernst told Fox News that the earmark was presented as funding for a substance abuse clinic, but her office determined the organization was housed in a restaurant and run by three individuals who share the same residential address.

“Tons of red flags,” Ernst said. She explained that Congress stripped the earmark from the spending bill, citing it as an example of how easily federal money has “been flowing to bad actors” in Minnesota.
