The Trump administration is calling up roughly 2,000 federal immigration agents to head to Minnesota as part of a massive month-long crackdown.
Officers from all areas of the country were instructed over the weekend to head to Minnesota “ASAP” to assist in the operation, Homeland Security sources told The Daily Wire. Homeland Security Investigations agents are also expected to conduct fraud investigations after federal prosecutors found that dozens of Somalis living in Minnesota were allegedly tied to a multibillion-dollar swindling scheme, CBS News reported.
Investigators believe that the alleged fraudsters stole $9 billion in taxpayer funds as they funneled cash from state welfare programs through fake nonprofits and shell companies back to Somalia — and even Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab, City Journal reported last month.
More than 90 people have been charged since 2021, while more than 60 have thus far been convicted, CBS reported, citing court documents.
Customs and Border Protection Commander Gregory Bovino, who has become the poster child for the Trump administration’s immigration sweeps in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, and New Orleans, is also expected to deploy to Minnesota with fellow Border Patrol agents, according to CBS News.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement also has planes at the ready to fly detainees out of Minnesota and into other areas of the country, where there is more available detention space to set them up for deportation, one Homeland Security source said.
