Does It Matter Which Book an Official Is Sworn In On?
Robert Spencer

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said it succinctly on Wednesday, commenting on the news that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani intended to be sworn in on the Qur’an: “The enemy is inside the gates.”

Newsmax reported Thursday that in saying this, Tuberville had “ignited a fresh political firestorm.” It was just over two weeks ago that he ignited the last one, writing that “Islam is not a religion. It's a cult. Islamists aren't here to assimilate. They're here to conquer. Stop worrying about offending the pearl clutchers. We've got to SEND THEM HOME NOW or we'll become the United Caliphate of America.”

According to Newsmax, Mamdani’s use of the Qur’an for his three (yes, three) oath-takings was indicative of the ever-widening divide in American politics. Mamdani’s “supporters said the moment reflects the city's diversity and a ‘turning point’ for Muslim representation in civic life,” while his critics “argued the symbolism underscores how radically New York politics has shifted away from America's Judeo-Christian roots.”

I don't even need to read the article.
But I'll reply.

YES.
It DOES matter.

The Bible should be the only "book" upon which oaths of office are taken, at least in the United States of America.

What does the quran say about infidels?
What does THAT say about anyone who swear with allegiance upon it?

The Founders made an error in writing the Constitution (actually, one of numerous errors):
Religious "tests" SHOULD matter in who we choose to govern over us.

Because if we don't care about such things, we will leave a vacuum into which islam will rush.
As it's doing TODAY.

Any elected official who declines to take the oath of office on The Bible and instead does so upon the quran is sending you a message right up front that he's unwilling to believe or accept the foundational principles upon which our government and civilization is founded.

Sorry if you don't care for this post.
But I won't be changing it.

I'll frame it this way:

Dors it matter if one takes an oath at all?

How many people have been prosecuted for breaking their oath of office?

Legally? No.  A politician can be sworn in on a coloring book.  Symbolically? Better be a Bible, unless it's NYC.

Are they sure it wasn't the Communist Manifesto?

They could use the Phone Book for all the difference it makes if the person being sworn in has decided to do what they damn well please regardless of the law.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
