from r/SherlockHolmes

Born in 1934, Burke rehabilitated Dr. Watson from a "bumbling fool" caricature into a smart and thoughtful companion for Holmes, often with humor and a twinkle in his eye, who also protected Holmes from his own drug addiction and worst impulses. Burke and Jeremy Brett had great chemistry together.

Clarence Carter, known for his raunchy blues hits like "Slip Away," "Back Door Santa" and "Strokin'", dies at 90

Carter, a blind blues singer, personally disliked the blues genre for its overemphasis on sad tales of woe, and often focused the bulk of his work on upbeat, humorous records that pushed the limit of ribaldry, such as his Christmas record "Back Door Santa" and his breakthrough hit, "Slip Away," both of which pertained to adultery, and his 1986 comeback record "Strokin'," which you can probably guess what that one is about. Ironically, Carter's largest hit was a sad tale of woe so over-the-top it was almost funny, 1970's "Patches," which deals with a preteen boy who witnesses his father's death, struggles to go to school and work the family's subsistence farm, then watches the crops all wash away in a rainstorm.

This is a tragic loss. Words can not express the loss.

Dennis Locorriere, who pivoted from being lead vocalist for Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show to being one of country music's most prolific backing vocalists in the 1980s and 1990s before living the rest of his life in England, dies at 76

Joe Sedelmaier Sr., who invented iconic advertising catchphrases, dies at 92

Sedelmaier was once described as the Preston Sturges (a Golden Age film director for the younger folk in the crowd) of TV commercials. Among his famous creations were "Where's the Beef?," the famous Wendy's ad; and the FedEx commercial that featured John Moschitta firing off rapid-fire instructions to his employees, bringing the fast-talker to national fame.

James Robison passed yesterday. It's incalculable how many souls were saved under his ministry, but for sure, zero souls would have been reached had his mother been able to find someone to abort her "product of rape." How many others died at the hands of greedy, bloodthirsty "doctors" over the years who might have had a profound impact in this world?

Looks like he and his wife were married a bit over 63 years and were "parted" by his death.

He was somewhat of a religio-political celebrity in the early 80s, but stepped away from the celebrity, focusing on his local churches and his Christian ministries.

Most of his first 5 years of life were with a local pastor, who with his wife cared for him while his birth mother could not. The latter married her rapist and took back James Robison until he was age 15. The "father" was an alcoholic and violent with James, and after a violent confrontation, James went back to and became part of the pastor's family. Needless to say (but I am), this pastor was James Robison's inspiration for his life of ministry.

I always lumped Robison together with all of the other prosperity gospel nuts.  I had a good friend who has passed that was part of his ministry.  I pray I was wrong about James.

Mark got a raw deal by OJ's defense team...

O.J. Simpson Case Det. Mark Fuhrman Dead At 74

By TMZ Staff
Published May 18, 2026 1:49 PM PDT | Updated May 18, 2026 4:20 PM PDT

Former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman, who discovered the bloody glove in the O.J. Simpson murder case and later torpedoed the prosecution with his use of the n-word, is dead ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ ... Mark died from an aggressive form of throat cancer, which he was diagnosed with last year. Mark had been hospitalized for about a week before he died. He had done some cancer treatment ... but made the final decision to stop. There won't be a funeral.

Mark had been living in Idaho and the Kootenai County Coroner Office tells us Mark died May 12.

He retired from LAPD way back in August 1995 and started writing true crime books. He became a TV and radio personality and even worked as an expert for Fox News.

A year after retiring, Mark pleaded no contest in 1996 to a felony count of perjury for lying about using a racial slur when he testified during O.J.'s trial.

O.J.'s defense team infamously played a tape in court, in which Mark used the n-word. The audio contradicted his earlier testimony, specifically him denying using the slur.

I don't believe Robison was a prosperity gospel/false teacher like Kenneth Hagin, Bennie Hinn, et al.

You're right. He wasn't. At one point he was at enmity with that movement, but his anger began taking a toll and interfered with his relationship with the Lord. He softened toward them and found peace.
