Au Revoir: George and Amal Clooney Take French Citizenship

Actor turned left-wing activist George Clooney and his family have taken French citizenship, a publicly available government decree confirmed.

Le Monde reported on Monday that Lexington, Kentucky-born Clooney, his wife, British-Lebanese lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, and twin children Ella and Alexander were all granted French citizenship this month as per the contents of a naturalization decree published by the Official Journal of the French Republic on Saturday, December 27.

The decree, which can be accessed and downloaded online from a French government website upon passing a simple mathematical security check, lists the Clooney family among several dozen others individuals naturalized by the same decree.

Le Monde noted that the decree confirms Clooney’s plans and his praise of France’s privacy laws that “keep his family shielded from paparazzi”

“I love the French culture, your language, even if I’m still bad at it after 400 days of courses,” Clooney reportedly told RTL radio in December. “Here, they don’t take photos of kids. There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s number one for us.”

Speaking to Esquire magazine in October, Clooney bashed Los Angeles’ culture, and stressed that living on a farm in France was better for his wife and twin children.

“We live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid” Clooney said, “I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for [the twins], it’s like, they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grownups and have to take their dishes in.”

If he does, that’ll be an expensive proposition, since he’ll have to pay US exit tax on the way out, and most likely won’t get a basis step up in the taxed assets for French income tax purposes since the treaty didn’t provide for it, unlike the U.S.-Germany income tax treaty.

Well, there is an estate tax treaty between the U.S. and France, so double taxation should be mitigated on that end.

Well, if it truly a matter of shielding his kids I kinda get it. But I have a hard time believing there are no paparazzi in France or laws that would actually offer protection.

French actor George Clooney struck back at President Donald Trump’s snide remarks about him and urged Americans to kick Republicans out of office in the coming 2026 midterm elections.

Clooney had attacked President Trump in an interview with Variety released on Monday, and the president responded in no uncertain terms, trolling Clooney for his many “mediocre” movies and celebrating the fact that Clooney is now a citizen of France and has let the U.S.A.

Trump reported the “good news” on New Year’s Eve on his Truth Social account calling Clooney and his wife, Amal, ” two of the worst political prognosticators of all time.”

“Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump needled.

“Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat,” Trump added.

“Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the president concluded.
