Housing affordability -- supposedly tariffs are in part the reason why housing has become unaffordable.
What is the big picture that Trump is missing? The cost of homeowner's insurance and propeprty taxes. Each of ours has just about tripled in the past 7 years. We have lived in FL for over 30 years and we only made one claim after hurricane Ian - we are IMO helping to pay for those who weren't insured or under insured.
DeSantis and the FL legislature are working on it. They have proposed several bills which will lower taxes, but very little, because taxes for schools (the largest tax) won't be omited for any age bracket and of course our first responders must be paid. They've tried to resurrect the homeowners insurance industry but many insurers have left the state; homeowners insurance is ridiculous, flood insurance is pretty hefty with no promise that FEMA will even continue to exist, and flood insurance is mandated for those who have mortgages.
So -- IMHO until the insurance and property tax issues are resolved, the issue of home affordability won't be resolved. The argument of course is that we chose to live in FL. I get that and since we are in no shape to move, we need to accept things as is and go along with the punches.
We have seen an enormous population explosion in FL -- if people find that they can't afford the homes, then they should have done their homework and they shouldn't have moved here in the first place!
....and so....life goes on....
