Ladies, You’re Loading The Dishwasher All Wrong. Here’s How To Do It The Right Way
Shawn Fleetwood

There comes a time in every man’s life in which he’s had that experience. After enjoying a well-cooked meal from his significant other or female relative, he journeys to the local dishwasher to dispense his used dishware only to find a catastrophe awaiting him.

Plates and bowls scattered across the wheeled racks at random. Silverware senselessly jammed into one or two of the many available basket pockets. The entire ensemble is so wretched that it resembles some trashy piece of modern abstract art.

But what’s a man to do? How is he supposed to get the woman in his life to stop loading the dishwasher like a cracked-out squirrel storing away nuts for the winter?

Fear not, for The Federalist is here to help with a step-by-step guide on how to properly manage a dishwasher and end this kitchen nightmare once and for all.

To start with, ladies, it’s important to understand which items go where in this sophisticated piece of technology.

The dishwasher here quit back about 1989 or so.

I never bothered to replace it -- it's in an old 1950's combined sink/diswasher combo (really), probably couldn't find a replacement without rebuilding the kitchen, and I'm not doing that.

So... I wash my dishes the old-fashioned way, by hand.
Not all that many of them to wash, in any case...

Was like that for a while but washing glasses is tedious. Dishwasher is a great invention.

Soaking makes it a tad easier.

If the fella is the only one who knows how to load the dishwasher, why isn't he the one doing it?

I don't know about these things: our "dishwashers" are us.

Same, I tend to do most the dishwashing (and very little cooking). I am a butt when it comes to how dishes are arranged around the sink, and loath when someone puts a greasy pan in with the other dishes. I am such a rear-end that I just end up doing 80+% of the dishes (wife will do some as she is between cooking meals). I even put them away on occasion (but the boy's job is to dry and put away). Today I had the honor of taking the stainless rings off the stove and cleaning them with table grinder with a soft wire wheel after an accidental spill cooked-on hard.

I replaced the drip rings on the gas stove once, about 10 or so years ago. But they're getting worn again.

So... I tried to order some more.
But... they seem to have become obsolete, can't find them.
Like the dishwasher, the stove is too old (going on 45 years now).
I don't use it much. Only one of the burners, maybe once a day.
That's all I need of it.

Ummm.... ladies, if you can't load a dishwasher without instruction and the way you want and fill in every nook and cranny so you don't have to wash them by hand -- you've got problems.  Most of us I think can manage loading a darn dishwasher.  Anything that doesn't fit in the dishwasher gets washed by hand.  My good silverware that gets used on special occasions (which are becoming less and less) also get hand washed.

I load our dishwasher a couple of days till it's accumulated enough dishes, pots and pans and silverware to turn it on. That may sound gross, but it does save a boat load of time.

Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

We don't have a dishwasher, and Mr. M washes them by hand most of the time - and the draining rack looks like an explosion. When I do it, however, it's all very orderly and precise. We kind of turned the gender stereotypes on their head with me being the organized one and his style being more hodgepodge.
