The United States is preparing to intercept more oil tankers off the Venezuelan coast, signaling a sharp intensification of the Trump administration's campaign to oust Nicolas Maduro. The move follows a successful seizure operation carried out by U.S. forces on Wednesday, according to sources speaking with Reuters.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the initial operation during a Thursday briefing, stating that the Department of Justice had obtained a warrant for the ship. She described the target as a “sanctioned shadow vessel known for carrying black-market oil” intended to support Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
While Leavitt declined to provide specifics on future maneuvers, she emphasized that the administration would not "stand by and watch sanctioned vessels sail the seas with black market oil," warning that such proceeds are being used to "fuel narco-terrorism of rogue and illegitimate regimes around the world."
