President Donald Trump is backing a Republican proposal that would put as much as $1,500 directly into Americans’ health savings accounts, money they can use for medical expenses instead of lining insurance companies’ pockets.

The bill, led by Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Mike Crapo of Idaho, gives $1,000 to Affordable Care Act enrollees ages 18 to 49, and $1,500 to those ages 50 to 64. The cash would go straight into Health Savings Accounts, not to insurers or government programs.

On Air Force One, Trump made it clear he supports the idea for one reason: the money goes to the people, not health industry giants. “I like the concept. I don’t want to give the insurance companies any money,” he said. “They’ve been ripping off the public for years.”

So, if I'm reading this right, you have to be an ACA enrolee (never was, it cost too much) and between the ages of 18 and 64 to get this HSA money (yeah, you might want to have an HSA if you meet the other criteria).

I'm on Medicare, with supplemental insurance ('Medigap' and a drug plan) so I won't qualify. I'll still have to pick up the tab for whatever Medicare and the rest do not, and pay about $425 a month for the coverage I have.

SO, don't hold your breath...

Christmas could be coming twice.

Working Americans are going to get “very large refunds” of $1,000 to $2,000 per household early in the new year, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The checks will come in the first quarter of 2026 as a result of tax cuts in President Donald Trump’s sweeping, budget-focused One Big Beautiful Bill Act, he said.

“I think we’re going to see $100-$150 billion of refunds, which could be between $1,000, $2,000 per household,” Bessent said Wednesday.

Several provisions in the legislation, including auto-deductibility and no tax on tips, are to thank for the payday, he said.

Americans with jobs have not yet adjusted their tax withholding, so many will receive refunds next year, he said.
