CNN anchor Jake Tapper referred to the Washington, D.C., pipe bomb suspect as a "White man" Thursday during his coverage of the breaking news, shortly before airing the man's picture that showed he was Black.

Brian Cole Jr. of Woodbridge, Virginia, was arrested Thursday nearly five years after he allegedly placed pipe bombs outside the RNC and DNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., on the eve of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot on Capitol Hill.

Tapper kicked off Thursday's installment of "The Lead" by addressing the arrest.

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed.

The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.
