Younghoe Koo offers bizarre excuse for embarrassing missed field goal in Giants loss

Humiliated New York Giants kicker Younghoe Koo has blamed the weather for the astonishing kicking mishap that made him a laughingstock across the NFL.

Koo pulled up short and kicked the ground on his approach to a 47-yard field goal attempt on Monday night, where the Giants lost 33-15 to the New England Patriots. The score was close at 17-7 at the time disaster struck.

As Koo kicked the ground, placeholder Jamie Gillan - who himself had a 94-yard kick returned for a touchdown - grabbed the ball and ran to find a receiver before being swarmed by the Patriots special team.

Koo, 31, has since explained that he thought the ball was moving when Gillan was holding it, which distracted him during his run-up.

'I was approaching the ball and, cold weather, the ball kind of slipped out at the bottom so it was moving,' Koo said, as per the New York Post.

'I wasn't able to kick through the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving to it, so I just pulled up on it.

The word "hapless" was invented to describe the Giants this year.
Also "incompetent."
