Green campaigners have stopped blocking roads. Now they’re ‘arresting’ chief executives
Story by Louis Goss • 23h
There are a few things in the world that can force a multi-millionaire oil boss to sprint down a central London street in a full suit and loafers.
But when Amjad Bseisu, the head of North Sea energy giant EnQuest, was accosted by a group of green campaigners in early November, he was so alarmed by the stunt that he raced away to the safety of a nearby office.
This just one in a string of chief executives who have been subject to an attempted “citizen’s arrest” by a campaign group known as the Citizen’s Arrest Network.
While small in number, its activities have alarmed bosses who fear becoming the next victim of its stunts, which include chasing chief executives down the street and uploading videos of the so-called arrests to cause maximum embarrassment.
