LOS ANGELES – A new statewide survey shows 33-year-old businessman Leo Zacky leading among California voters aged 18-44, with 31% selecting the Republican candidate as their top choice for governor in 2026.

Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra came in second at 24%, former U.S. Rep. Katie Porter at 15% and California State Controller Betty Yee at 7% – all three of them Democrats.

Other notable candidates included political commentator Steve Hilton, a Republican, at 3%, former Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat, at 2%, and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and Korean-American evangelical pastor Ché Ahn, both Republicans, at 1% each.

As a teenager, Leo would accompany his grandmother to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. as she lobbied for the agriculture industry. Later, he would become a lobbyist as a member of the California Poultry Federation (CPF).

Zacky, whom I'd not heard of (other than his family's now defunct chicken business), is making good noises. Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco are as well. There are 3 solid R candidates. The Dem candidates ... I have trouble taking any of them very seriously, but I'm obviously partisanly prejudiced. Trying to set that aside, I do not see any of the Dem candidates as especially strong, at present anyway.

Zacky has experience, direct and through his family, with agriculture-related business. Bianco is the Sheriff of Riverside County. Hilton's background is in UK and US politics. Because of their business and law enforcement experience, I would tend to favor Zacky or Bianco. In their fields, both have experience with the issues gooberment creates for normal people..
