Last week, Oakland’s new mayor found herself consoling the friends and family of a beloved community college football coach who was shot on campus.

The day after her visit, Barbara Lee sat with The Associated Press for an hour at her downtown Oakland office.

A veteran state legislator and federal congresswoman but city leader of only six months, Lee discussed both her city’s struggle with violent crime and its rich culture and deep sense of community.

I was home ported in Alameda, right next door, some 52 years ago.  If there is a rich culture in Oakland, it is the great numbers of thugs, murderers, rapists, and various other criminals.  It was a sh*t hole then, and likely even bigger now.

Baa-Baa Lee was Ron "Red" Dellums's hand-picked successor for his Congressional seat. I guess Baa-Baa retired from Congress. Now she afflicts Oakland.

Oakland's situation has deteriorated considerably in recent decades. Every major-league professional sports team left the city - the Warriors back to SF, the Raiders to Las Vegas, and the Athletics to Sacramento while waiting for their stadium to be built in Las Vegas. Several profitable restaurants near the airport and coliseum closed down because of danger to their customers and employees. The city has come apart at the seams, and Baa-Baa will perpetuate and add to policies that have done the ripping.
