Pirates Make a Fatal Mistake Attacking a French Warship

The French tanker La Somme was carrying out routine patrol duties in the Indian Ocean in late 2009 as part of Europe’s mission to counter piracy in the region, and with 162 armed sailors on board, the flagship had little to fear in the contested waters off the Horn of Africa. Yet one evening, two small motorized boats filled with armed pirates brazenly opened fire on the massive warship, unaware of the mistake that would cost them dearly as the crew of La Somme quickly overwhelmed the attackers and returned to their mission. While most would assume the pirates had learned their lesson, a new set of photos posted online revealed that in 2010 the same warship once again found itself under attack, proving that some mistakes are destined to be repeated.
