House Republican predicts shutdown will last beyond Thanksgiving
by Ryan Mancini - 11/07/25 10:13 PM ET

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) on Friday said the government shutdown, the longest in modern U.S. history, will stretch past Thanksgiving.

“I think it’s going to go on after Thanksgiving,” Burchett told anchor Black Burman on “The Hill on NewsNation.” “Yeah, I think the pain is going to continue until the TSA — [if] you have three or four Democrats peel off and capitulate on this thing, and it’s going to come back and say, ‘Hey, you know this is our health care issue. Let’s come to the table. Let’s quit suffering. Let’s get to the table on this, on this health care issue.’”

“And until that happens, I don’t see it happening,” Burchett added.

Burchett said that Republicans have “staked their ground” with passing a clean continuing resolution, but added if Democrats want to negotiate over expanding health care subsidies set to expire at the end of the year, “What’s wrong with President Trump’s idea of opening the government?”

He accused Democrats of profiting off of health insurance companies, and that the party “is being funded by who’s getting fat off ObamaCare.”

“It’s not the doctors. It’s not the patients. It sure as heck isn’t the patients that were lied to from the start,” Burchett said. “It’s like they got a $5 bill and they throw it on a fishing line and run it down the hall to the Senate chambers, and they are all the Democrats are chasing it, and that’s exactly what this is about.

“It’s not about taking care of people. It’s about power. It’s about control. It’s arrogance. It’s Washington, D.C., to a T and it needs to change.”

Major airlines have raced to assure customers that they will not be caught for the costs of cancelled flights.

In a memo to staff that was shared with the BBC, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said any customer can get a refund on a flight, even if it isn't being cancelled, including customers with non-refundable tickets and basic economy tickets. United, the largest airline in the country, says that, in addition to waiving fees, it will also waive any fare differences on a rebooked flight.

Schumer says this is good for the Democrats.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

Schumer says this is good for the Democrats.

It is if the DNC's pets in the media can convince a sufficient number of Americans that it's the GOP's fault.

My daughter and SIL went to Las Vegas this weekend to meet friends and they didn’t want to chance flying as it is now, so they drove instead. Just as well my daughter wanted to buy some decent rat poison because here in California I guess they are worried about giving rats cancer so the poison they permit is useless. Forty years ago Vector control gave out free bait blocks that the rats loved and killed them quick……those were the days.

We have the same problem in NYC - if you want vermin or pest poison that actually works, you have to break NY law and go out-of-state to buy the stuff that works.

Meanwhile ... Congress  will be enjoying their holidays.

They're enjoying their workdays, too.  A Constitutional argument can be made that Congress members still get paid no matter what.  But that doesn't include perks, staff, iPhones, chauffeured travel, meal expenses, etc.  All of those need to be cut off today.  There should be only 535 people who are allowed into the Capitol.  No secretaries.  No aids.  No staff members.  All of them need to be sitting at home looking for temporary ways to earn cash while their bosses leave them high and dry.

The problem with the Democrats' shutdown is that it isn't a shutdown.  It's a political show.

SHUT IT DOWN!  NOW!
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
