Newsom holding a rally in Texas after redistricting win in California
by Ryan Mancini - 11/06/25 10:44 PM ET

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) will hold a rally in Texas on Saturday opposing the state’s redistricting efforts alongside local Democratic lawmakers, days after Golden State voters backed a measure to redraw their own congressional districts.

Texas was the first of several red states that followed President Trump’s directive to change their congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterms. Though some blue states considered redrawing their maps through the legislatures, Newsom elected to have voters choose if California should proceed with his plan.

“California stepped up. Now, we are taking this fight across the country — helping Democrats in other states push back against Trump’s election rigging,” Newsom said in a statement to Politico.

The Hill has reached out to Newsom’s office for a comment.

On Tuesday, California voters approved Proposition 50, allowing lawmakers to rework the Golden State’s maps. This allows Democrats in the state to potentially gain five House seats in 2026. California represents the first state where Democrats have been able to successfully redistrict midcycle in response to the GOP’s moves.

With Proposition 50’s success, it could raise Newsom’s national profile as he continues his tit-for-tat with Trump and considers a run for president in 2028.

It's too bad California doesn't have an opposition party that can file suit in federal court to block this.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

It's too bad California hasn't had a governor for the past year - just a podcaster, presidential candidate, and jackass who hasn't spent one minute in his office, talking to legislators, or working on any of the state's problems.
