Quote
Last night was ugly. The major races in Virginia and New Jersey were killing fields for the GOP. But keep in mind one thing: these are blue states, and they acted like it. Republicans got swept in these key races. Republicans in Virginia lost the governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general races. New Jersey, where one hoped Republican Jack Ciattarelli could pull off an upset, was dashed by the general political mood and the fact that 250,000 New Jersey residents had fled the state the last time he ran, where he almost uprooted incumbent Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy.

(snip)

It's not the end, but this was an atrocious night for the Republican Party. Up and down the line, from school board to county commissioner, governor to assemblyman—the GOP got throttled. For sure, this will be used by the media to craft an anti-Trump narrative. Part of this is the tide turning against the GOP ahead of the midterm elections, as it historically does. But this shutdown isn’t going anyone's favor, and Democrats now have less of an interest in ending it.

How many of these were in red states?

It was state and local elections all across the country.  The trend has shifted.

EXCERPT

Remember what I said about Republican hubris a few months ago?  Well here it is biting us on the butt.

I’ve been posting for the last several months warning that Democrats were doing very well electorally and even flipping districts that voted for Trump and I was called a Democrat, left of center, a troll, you name it. Which was kind of funny because I haven’t changed any of my political views.

This was an absolute bloodbath for the GOP and next year promises to be the same. It doesn’t look like at least from what I see so far that the Republicans won anything

Mississippi of all places the Republicans lost two Senate seats to Democrats ending their super majority

This was not just blue states and blue areas remaining blue.

The myths of the Democratic Party being dead have now been put to rest. Nothing is dead until you bury it, burn it, revive it and burn it again.

It’s becoming clear that Donald Trump is an albatross around the neck of the Republican Party. When he’s on the ballot and is the challenger, it’s the only time he’s successful.

The level on denial on this site is off the charts. Whether it’s Donald Trump’s polling, the state of the Democratic Party, how people feel about the direction of the country and the economy in general, ect nobody wanted to admit there was a problem brewing

I’m not confident that we have a republican president after 2028

I’ll have to investigate this further, but I caught a blip that the Democratic governor elected in  Virginia even did well against the young men

https://www.newsweek.com/full-list-democrat-victories-upsets-nationwide-10994750

From what I can tell so far, I can’t find a single area or election that flip from blue to red. If that is true, that continues a trend of democratic electoral success in the era of Trump.

When Congress shifts after next year’s midterms, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to get anything through enough to override a veto pen, but we’ll see

Dems won their home games.  2026, they have to go on the road.

No, they don’t

Next year is a midterm election, not a presidential election.

Is there any seats anywhere were Republicans flipped last night?

In Suburban Philly in one of the 4 collar counties that swung the state for Trump in 16 and 24, it was a Blue wave on ALL county seats. DA which was Republican for 50 plus years went to D by 10% as did all line offices. Sheriff who supported ICE was ousted in favor of a "progressive".  Not a pleasant thought as we slide into Philly 2.0 or look ahead to '26

Oh, for heaven's sake, THIS ⬇️ is what a bloodbath looks like .....

2010
US Senate:  Republicans gain 6
US House:   Republicans gain 63
Governors:  Republicans gain 6

2014:
US Senate:  Republicans gain 8, and the majority
US House:   Republicans gain 12 seats, and the largest majority since Harry Truman 60 years ago
Governors:  Republicans clinched stunning victories in MA, MD and IL.

Yesterday's elections were inter-state contests with local issues driving turnout and outcome.

Off-cycle elections are always sparce, to say the least   This year's were no exception.  It appears your flipping question ⬆️ is irrelevant.

It’s becoming clear that Donald Trump is an albatross around the neck of the Republican Party.

Nonsense. The GOP is the problem. They can't find their spines and they insist on acting like the minority party.

They also can't stand having a Republican President who doesn't have all of the character, charisma, and drive of a bowl of room temperature oatmeal.

Bush 1, Dole, Bush 2, McCain, and Romney were flavorless, lukewarm, and useless.

The ones who won their elections squandered their opportunities to get the nation back on track because too many scum in the GOP make money from Democrat-sponsored grift.

Trump is actually doing something and they can't stand it.

Yep ... this is definitely ALL Trump's fault.

You need to get your head out of the sand. I know you believe what you posted is true.

It was a blood bath for Republicans last night. Spin it anyway you want

The only elections that Donald Trump has been successful is when he’s the challenger and on the ballot
Any other election? Not so much.

Even the 2022 midterms, which would’ve normally been a blowout for the Republicans, was a red trickle. Had it not been for Lee Zeldins  strong  campaign in New York and flipping several congressional seats in New York in 2022, Democrats may have very well have still held the HOR

I get you’re “all in” when it comes to Donald Trump and that’s all well and good,  but the fact is  he is a very unpopular president and the Republicans paid a price last night as a result, and that will probably carry over to next year’s midterms

There’s no sugarcoating what happened last night.  And Democrats gained 13 seats in your state’s  house of delegates. And Hispanic voters, which the GOP was making gains with,  went democrat last night

You may think it’s irrelevant, and I know you love your snarky comments, but I cannot find any place were a republican flipped a democrat seat last night. Not a one. Even in red districts

You’re probably not aware, but there were other races besides Virginia, New York City, and New Jersey

Democrats flipped two seats in the Mississippi State Senate ending the Republicans super majority. Mississippi is as red state as you can get.

You need to get out of your information silo from time to time. And don’t convince yourself that the Democrats are gonna run Mamdani type  Democrats in swing districts and states next year.

This has been a trend of Democrats either out performing their vote from 2024 to flipping districts from red to blue this year

Last night was no exception. So it is relevant.

It seems there’s several that need to leave the echo chamber. And another loss for the GOP under the control of Donald Trump.

And the Hispanic vote going for Democrats this time is a huge blow to the GOP after making gains

Democrats are even flipping school board races last night

Show me one race yesterday where a seat flipped from democrat to republican. I’m not talking about Democrat hold. I’m talking about an actual flip.

Actually, Youngkin's victory was an outlier.  A good man, retail politician and smart as a whip.  I hope we see more of him.

BTW and FWIW, I've come to know Glenn rather well over the last five years --- chalk it up to one of my ventures.

Just as I thought

You couldn’t come up with one. I would’ve taken anything. Even a local dogcatcher that flipped from Democrat to Republican, I would’ve given.

But I’ve tried looking, and I cannot find one instance. Not a one. But lots of examples of Democrats flipping Republican political seats.  Democrats are even flipping school board races.

I have nothing against Glenn Youngkin. I don’t know him personally, but you do and I’ll take your word for it on your personal assessment of him

But thats in  no way related to the beating the GOP got last night
