Conservative podcaster Ben Shapiro blasted Tucker Carlson on Monday, calling him “the most virulent super-spreader of vile ideas in America,” adding fuel to an incident that sparked a staff shakeup at the Heritage Institute.

In an episode of “The Ben Shapiro Show” released Monday, Shapiro criticized Carlson’s podcast episode with Holocaust-denier Nick Fuentes, saying Carlson failed to push back on Fuentes’ bigotry.

“The issue here isn’t that Tucker Carlson had Nick Fuentes on his show last week. He has every right to do that, of course,” Shapiro said. “The issue here is that Tucker Carlson decided to normalize and fluff Nick Fuentes and that the Heritage Foundation then decided to robustly defend that performance.”

Carlson declined to comment when contacted Monday.

Shapiro’s critique is the latest crack in a conservative movement splintering over Carlson’s inflammatory interview with Fuentes. The interview, which aired last week, was laced with antisemitic references and sparked division within the Republican Party over whether the discussion should be allowed or condemned. On the podcast, Fuentes praised Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and claimed the “big challenge” to unifying the country was “organized Jewry.” Carlson, a former Fox News host who retains a large following, said Republican Israel supporters suffer from a “brain virus.”

The leading bad people in this appear to be Fuentes and his Groypers.  Heritage is getting collateral slime, and Carlson led with his chin one time too often.  He's shaping up to be another Candice Owen.

Tucker's supporters claim he's being silenced. Obviously, that's nonsense, because we're all seeing his videos and hearing what he has to say. By the same token, we see and hear that idiot Fuentes and Candace Owens. Wishing they'd all just shut up is not the same thing as "silencing" them.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Funny thing about the first Amendment.
People have a right to say what they will (not unlimited, but there, nonetheless).
People have a Right to be wrong, factually, morally, logically, or all of the above.
People also have a Right to listen or not, embrace or reject the ideas contained in that speech.

There is no denying millions were slaughtered with industrial efficiency during WWII, during Stalin's regime, under Mao, and a host of other genocidal maniacs who inspired, incited, and led some of the most profound atrocities we know of.

If Fuentes wants to ignore that, the voices that rise postmortem from mass graves, from riverbeds full of bones, from ashes that rival volcanic eruptions, he is free to be wrong. Tucker is free, as well, to give him that platform from which to be wrong, and even elicit his enthusiasm for his error.

I have not seen the interview, but from past interviews Tucker has conducted with controversial figures, he lets them run where they will, and follows up rather than argues with them, so I'm not so fast to condemn him. That's just his M.O.
How God must weep at humans' folly! Stand fast! God knows what he is doing!
Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

This coordinated smear campaign is not going to help the Israel lobby.  It might get someone assassinated, and that won’t help either.
