Man shot dead in North Portland Sunday night; second suspected homicide of day

A man was shot to death in North Portland Sunday night, police said.
Officers arrived in the 9900 block of North Whitaker Road just before 10 p.m. to find a man attempting to give first aid to another man, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Paramedics soon arrived, but the victim died at the scene.
The name of the man who died has not been released.
Police closed off North Whitaker Road between Victory Boulevard and North Hayden Meadows Drive during the initial stage of the investigation.
The Police Bureau did not report that any arrests had been made. The bureau asks anyone who has information about the shooting to send an email to Homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov or call 503-823-0479.
