With just over a week to go before New Yorkers cast their ballots, the city’s high-stakes mayoral race has tightened dramatically. A new Quinnipiac University poll shows Democratic Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani’s once-commanding lead over former Governor Andrew Cuomo has shrunk by half — signaling a volatile final stretch in one of the most closely watched elections in the country.

According to the survey, Mamdani now stands at 44% support among likely voters, compared to 34% for Cuomo, who is running as an independent. Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa trails with 11%, while 7% of voters remain undecided. The results mark a steep decline from Mamdani’s 20-point advantage in September, suggesting that Cuomo’s late-stage resurgence and recent endorsements are making an impact.

Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 amid a wave of scandals, has staged an unexpected political comeback. Once written off as a relic of New York’s Democratic machine, he’s rebranded himself as an independent voice for stability — a message resonating with moderate Democrats and older voters frustrated by what they view as the city’s leftward lurch.

All this polling...back and forth...

My most vivid memory on this...a NYC reporter stopped a random twenty-something Black male wearing a long-sleeved sweatshirt about the "choices".

His simple answer: "It unaffordable to live or work in NYC".

If Sliwa is not getting paid by Mamdani then he is a fool.
Mamdani would give his soul to Sliwa as long as he keeps doing what he is doing (killing Cuomo). Mamdani LOVES Sliwa.

If Sliwa is not taking a bribe, then he is an idiot.

Ain't necessarily so.

HERE are the most recent polling numbers (courtesy of real clear polling):


zombie-mammi seems to holding in the mid-40s.

lil' andy has picked up some votes, now hitting 34%. Looks like he's gained about 5% or so since adams dropped out and endorsed him.

Curtis has slipped a little. Perhaps a small number of his supporters (1-2%?) have switched to cuomo, if that much. He's in to the finish, seems to me if he was going to drop out and endorse cuomo he would have done so by now.

7% of the voters remain "undecided".
Let's be generous to cuomo and guess that the undecideds split and give him an additional 3%.
That's going to push zombie-mammi to about 48%.
cuomo looks like he could end up with 36-38%... at best.

With one week to go, unless something REALLY damaging comes out against z-mammi, he's the next "hizzoner".
Show me where I'm wrong.

Sliwa is the only 'tough on crime' candidate in the race.  Anyone voting for him won't vote for either Democrat regardless.
