I think he's likely taken note of palaces that he has entered in the ME; in particular Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and the gold Arabian Palace. Yet the U.S. is using tents???? Seriously. That is embarrassing.
Gilded or not, I don't object to the construction of a ballroom. It's a national embarrassment that we're holding formal events for foreign dignitaries in tents with porta-potties, like a bunch of football tailgaters.
Don't forget the high end porta potty bathrooms included in the tents. (Guests are not given access to the WH and indoor plumbing.)
You've got to be freakin' kidding me. Pora potties??? What a national embarrassment and these clowns are complaining about an enlarged, upgraded ballroom in the WH that will be beautiful and impressive when it's done and they won't have to use tents for crying out loud. Give me a break.
Too bad the jackass, Obama, couldn't figure out a ballroom was needed ---During his presidency, Barack Obama hosted multiple state dinners in tents on the White House South Lawn, most notably his first in 2009 for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The use of a tent allowed the administration to host a much larger guest list than the smaller, traditional venues inside the White House. * 2009: First state dinner for India Purpose: The dinner was held on November 24, 2009, to honor Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. By expanding the guest list to over 300 people, the Obamas wanted to signal a more open administration.Tent: A large, heated pavilion was set up on the South Lawn. The decor featured magnolia branches and ivy, with views of the Washington Monument.Other notable state dinners in tents* May 2010 (Mexico): A dinner for Mexican President Felipe Calderón included dessert and entertainment in a tent on the South Lawn.* March 2012 (United Kingdom): The Obamas hosted Prime Minister David Cameron for a dinner and entertainment in a tent on the South Lawn.* February 2014 (France): A state dinner for President François Hollande was held entirely in a tent on the South Lawn.* May 2016 (Nordic leaders): A dinner was held in a tent on the South Lawn for the leaders of five Nordic countries.* October 2016 (Italy): The Obamas hosted their final state dinner for Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in a tent on the South Lawn. This is cozy. (still no dance floor ...)
