Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has been charged in an alleged illegal poker scheme tied to organized crime, sources told the Post.

The 49-year-old former NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons was arrested in Oregon Thursday morning, the night after coaching his team in their season opener.

Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was charged as well, in a separate but related illegal gambling case, ABC reported.

Billups, an NBA Hall of Famer, has been charged with partaking in an alleged illegal poker ring tied to the Bonano, Genovese and Columbo crime families, sources told the Post.

A total of 31 people across the country are charged with running rigged games, which took place in Manhattan, the Hamptons and Las Vegas, sources said.

Add Heat player Terry Rozier to the same sting.

If you believe some of the "X" chatter, this might make 1919 baseball look like a garden party.  A Head Coach, and an opposing player, and the League itself? 

If someone killed the NBA with RICO, I'd put it up there with Excellent public service.

Fox now reporting 34 have been arrested. (multiple players and coaches). This is crazy.

A bombshell illegal sports betting scheme involving four NBA teams and four mafia crime families netted upwards of $7 million over two years, the FBI announced Thursday in a historic bust.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and former NBA player Damon Jones are among those indicted in the stunning take down of two separate illegal gambling-related cases.

Thirty one people — including members of the Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese mafia families, and coaches and players from the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trial Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors — have been arrested in the scheme carried out between January 2022 and March 2024, officials said.

New York FBI Assistant Director Christopher Raia says that Trail Blazers head coach and NBA Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups was used by the Italian mafia to attract poker players who would then play rigged games with x-ray technology.

I have no doubt that most, if not all, the teams in the NBA are involved in this scandal in some way.

Very wide spread and four Mafia families cooperating in the scheme…..and according to the article, for just $7million? That must be what the Mafia families initially invested to get control of all those coaches and players so they could really score on rigged games.

More coaches than 'players', IMO. 

They can control the spread by making substitutions, specific play calling (vs. 10 guyz having their own game of one-on-one)

Plus, I would imagine that if a secret among 3 people is tough, if it involved 100 players...then a player himself turned them in.

$150B spent last year just in legal bets in the United States.  That kind of cashflow invites shady elements and temptation.   Best Schadenfreude?   Some of the NBA players  may be trading in their $10-15M salaries for 10-15 at Leavenworth

Scandal is now at T + 6 hours, and the NBA hasn't spoke a peep.   They are either : (1) been caught flatfooted, or (2) have some complicity, and are lawyering up, and being quiet.

I vote no. 2, since these organization's have elaborate crisis management and contingency plans in place.

Basketball was once my game of choice. I quit watching after Dirk retired from the Mavs. The newer players coming in seemed like thugs.

Looks like it was a good decision.

NY Post reporting that Terry Rozier was going to fake an injury and miss the second half of a game, so the crooks placed heavy bets ($200,000) on his "Unders" props ... that was the tipoff
