The transactions, filed under “travel” and “transportation” expenses, were made in dozens of payments—many ranging between $600 and $1,300 per trip.The company, registered to a suburban Detroit address, advertises upscale chauffeured rides and black car services. While it’s unclear whether the vehicles were stretch limos or executive sedans, the repeated use of a “luxury” vendor has drawn heavy scrutiny given Tlaib’s frequent criticism of wealth inequality and “lavish spending by the political elite.”Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, has built her political brand around economic populism—often railing against “corporate greed” and calling for higher taxes on the wealthy. Just last year, she co-sponsored a bill with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to penalize companies with large CEO-to-worker pay gaps, framing the legislation as a way to fight for fairness and dignity for working families.But her campaign’s spending habits have fueled charges of hypocrisy.
