‘National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk’ is this week: What to know
by Addy Bink - 10/12/25 11:00 AM ET

NEXSTAR) — It’s been more than a month since conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Last month, both chambers of Congress approved resolutions to honor Kirk on what would have been his 32nd birthday. That day is coming up this week.

In the Senate, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) introduced a resolution to make October 14, 2025 — which would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday — a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk. Scott called Kirk’s death “a devastating loss.”

“Charlie was a good man – a devout husband, father, and friend,” Scott said in his remarks. His life was shaped by his faith and the idea that in America, debate and discussion are crucial to the betterment of our country. He believed in God, the American dream, the value of family, and the principles of our great nation.”

While the resolution received unanimous consent, it is a simple resolution, meaning it is not law and won’t require a full vote in the Senate.

In the House, several lawmakers introduced resolutions to honor Kirk and condemn political violence. In mid-September, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) confirmed a resolution to honor “the life and legacy of our friend Charlie Kirk” had passed.

While neither action established a national holiday, Scott’s order “encourages educational institutions, civic organizations, and citizens across the United States to observe [Oct. 14] with appropriate programs, activities, prayers, and ceremonies that promote civic, engagement and the principles of faith, liberty, and democracy that Charlie Kirk championed.”

Scott is among the thousands of people who gathered in Glendale, Arizona, in September for a public memorial for Kirk.

Charlie and Erika were destined to be with each other. They were true soulmates.

Gotta love how Trump threw in that little jab— “Not often, but sometimes beauty and brains go together.” Classic!

Trump says Kirk was unstoppable, irreplaceable: 'He didn't relax'

President Donald Trump described late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk as "indomitable," sharing personal stories about Kirk's tenacity and explaining he "didn't relax."

The president, who awarded Kirk the Medal of Freedom posthumously on Tuesday, described Kirk as "one of a kind" and "unstoppable" before telling the crowd about what is was like to work with the 31-year-old father of two.

"Boy, when he had an idea in his head ... he would call me, 'Sir, please. You haven't done it yet,'" Trump said.

The president said he would reply, "'Charlie, relax. Just relax,'" noting that usually did not happen.

"He didn't relax. He called me the next day again [and] it got done," Trump said. "He was indomitable, and always will be. He's really irreplaceable. Nobody's going to replace him ... You can't replace that kind of person and that kind of talent. We hold his memory in our hearts forever. Every single day of this administration, we will continue to carry out the mission for which he lived, and he really did. He lived for this country, lived for his wife and his family, but he lived for this country too. In Charlie's honor, we will continue like we have been, to fight, fight, fight and to win, win, win.".............

Erika Kirk shares Charlie's daughter's message to her dad: 'Happy birthday, Daddy'    8888crybaby

Charlie Kirk's wife, Erika, said she asked their daughter what she would like to say to her father for his 32nd birthday, which would have coincided with the Medal of Freedom ceremony Tuesday.

Through tears, the grieving widow shared what their 3-year-old would have said to Kirk.

"She said, 'Happy birthday, Daddy,'" Erika said. "'I want to give you a stuffed animal. I want you to eat a cupcake with ice cream, and I want you to go have a birthday surprise. I love you.'"

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, pure evil struck when the legendary Charlie Kirk was assassinated in broad daylight in a campus courtyard, triggering a groundswell of righteous fury all across our land.  Today, our Nation honors the immortal memory of Charlie — a father, a husband, a Christian martyr, and a titan of the American conservative movement.  We honor his life, we send our condolences to his beautiful family, and we pledge to advance the values for which he laid down his life.

Every day, Charlie devoted himself to a set of simple causes:  Defending the truth, encouraging debate, and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was gracious and articulate beyond measure, always welcomed opposing perspectives, and never deviated from his noble goal of bridging our political, cultural, and philosophical divides.

As we mourn this extraordinary loss, my Administration will continue to do everything in its power to end this devastating wave of political violence.  No civilized country can endure a culture where open debate is met with gunfire, the pursuit of truth is met with bloodshed, and love of country is met with seething hatred.  In Charlie’s absence, we are now tasked with continuing his mission of giving voice to our cherished American ideals with confidence and clarity.  Like him, we must not flinch in the face of darkness and hostility — and we must never waver in speaking the truth with joyful and steadfast resolve.

Today, on what would have been his 32nd birthday, our Nation honors the loving memory of Charlie Kirk.  We offer our condolences to his beautiful wife, Erika, and two precious children.  We call on every American to pray for peace in our public square.  Above all, we renew our resolve to always defend our principles of truth, faith, and the open exchange of ideas.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 14, 2025, as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.  I call on the American people to assemble on this day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to Charlie’s memory.  I invite the people of our Nation to pray for the advancement of peace, truth, and justice all across our country.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
