The vote was held Thursday and passed with 93% approval from members of the Harrisburg Area Community College Education Association (HACCEA), which represents more than 750 full- and part-time faculty across five campuses.
The authorization comes just days after faculty overwhelmingly rejected a proposed contract from the college on Sept. 26. That vote saw 91% of faculty voting against the offer, marking the second rejection of a proposal from HACC leadership since negotiations began nearly three years ago.
HACC released a statement on Sept. 26 about the proposal denial, saying that "HACC is disappointed by this decision as the contract proposal provides a fair compensation package with continued excellent working conditions. The College remains committed to bargaining in good faith and continues to work toward a mutually acceptable collective bargaining agreement."
Within seven days of HACC's statement, faculty decided to authorize the strike.
