Trump dollar coin design released by Treasury... and it's inspired by an iconic political photo

The Treasury Department is planning a dollar coin featuring Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, it emerged today.

The tails side of the coin features Trump holding his fist in front of an American flag with the words, 'Fight, fight, fight', in reference to his famous words after being shot in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The image of Trump standing with blood dripping from his face in front of the Stars and Stripes was seared into the imaginations of American voters during the election campaign and is doubtless one of the most iconic political images in history.

The heads side shows Trump in profile with the historic dates: '1776 - 2025'.

There is precedent for a sitting president to be featured on a coin at such an anniversary. Calvin Coolidge appeared on the 1926 sesquicentennial half dollar, marking the 150th anniversary of American independence.

No other sitting has ever been depicted on a US coin. Indeed, federal law prohibits living persons from appearing on circulating money, requiring at least two years after the death of presidents.

The most recent president to appear on a coin is George HW Bush who was commemorated on the 2020 Presidential dollar, a collector's edition released after the Republican's death in 2018.

'Despite the radical left's forced shutdown of our government, the facts are clear: Under the historic leadership of President Donald J. Trump, our nation is entering its 250th anniversary stronger, more prosperous, and better than ever before,' a Treasury Department spokesman said.

Rumors are that it would be minted in silver, likely sold along with proof, commemorative, and uncirculated coins (and sets, and medals) by the mint and not out there for general circulation.

Why not? When you look at the assortment of people who have appeared on US coins (https://www.usmint.gov/?srsltid=AfmBOoqTN9LsN8D_HXsiKkXRwyH2L10Ntegllue0YmDmfhoTlcl0Ne6a), the more, the merrier.

US Coin designs of late have been uninspiring ... not only the selection of who appears on those coins, but also the lack of effort in the design.  It's like Ikea has taken over the US Mint and implemented minimalist designs.

The design is on the US Mint website. It's real, at least that much of it. If it's done as a one ounce silver coin in proof or uncirculated versions, there is a good chance they'll sell well, at (current bullion prices) about $100.00 each.

Dollars to doughnuts ... GOP Congressmen will pass legislation authorizing issue of an official US Mint coin with Trump on it.  I suspect Trump would prefer a gold coin to a silver coin.

When Dems in charge, they'll issue Obama and Cackles coins to piss off Trump.

DC is just one large middle school/junior high/high school ... only without the fisticuffs, yet.

The US may not have a functional Goverment capable of passing a budget on time, but they can build monuments to the pharoah.

Whatever. The Numismatic division at the mint shows a profit, and this would enhance that bottom line. With the price of gold coins right now, silver would be the preferred metal. Price over spot is 100%, and volume would be greater because the coins would be less expensive and more people could afford one.
