White House: Democrats Demanding $200 Billion for Illegal Aliens Over a Decade to Reopen Government

Democrats are seeking close to $200 billion, over the course of a decade, for healthcare benefits for illegal aliens to reopen the federal government, a new White House memo states.

The memo, circulated to the media on Wednesday, accuses Democrats of spurring a government shutdown over their advocating for billions in American taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for illegal aliens and other foreign nationals. The memo begins:

    The Working Families Tax Cut Act, signed into law by President Trump, contains the most important America First healthcare reforms ever enacted. The policies represent a comprehensive effort to address waste, fraud, and abuse to strengthen the healthcare system for the most vulnerable Americans, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are focused on American citizens and do not subsidize healthcare for illegal immigrants.

    Democrats are demanding these reforms be repealed as a condition of keeping the government open for four weeks. This would result in the federal government spending nearly $200 billion on healthcare for illegal immigrants and non-citizens over the next decade—nearly enough to fund the entire Children’s Health Insurance Program over the same period—all while repealing reforms that strengthen care for the most vulnerable Americans.

Reminds me of that 120 lbs soaking wet banty rooster from school that struts around challenging everyone and keeps escalating, gets dropped by the 250 lb football player, then wonders why he got hit.

Grew up in a hard blue Rat county. Like to say this surprises me, but after 50+ years of it, it's just the same old same old.

Time to kick them in the teeth and light them on fire. If they understand anything, that's all they understand.

Just switch out the helpless pregnant woman with a helpless sick hard-working family...who walked a thousand miles thru the Mexican desert...always sleeping with one eye open...to get her sick [fill-in-the-blank] to a doctor.

Oh yeah!

Virtually all of the major news media wire services are reporting today, in sync with each other, that the Republicans are lying about illegals getting healthcare under the Democratic bill.

They are calling the Republican claims “false”, stating uniformly that the Congressional Budget Office, which of course is “non-partisan,” says that only certain legal categories of Immigrants would be eligible for ACA benefits, including those with visas, or asylum seekers.

Perhaps someone with greater knowledge of the issue might explain to me, and to others here just how the media is coming to this conclusion, and getting away with calling Republicans liars in purported news stories.

There’s a secondary problem here. A law that needs to be revisited and restated.

Regan signed The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) in 1986. That commands all hospitals that receive any Federal funding (which they all nearly do via Medicare/Medicaid) to treat/assess anyone walking into the ER, irrespective of a demonstrable way to pay, insurance coverage, legal status, etc. The Federal government then paid the hospitals, usually at a higher rate than most patients would pay. 

Unless that law is modified State hospitals, already under financial stress, will absorb those costs without remuneration.

That law has been amended beyond recognition, to expand beyond full hospital stays and PT.

It needs to be brought back down to its original text.
