Sean Penn Says ‘We Need’ People Like Charlie Kirk in Politics to Inspire ‘Debate’

Simon Kent 28 Sep 2025

Hollywood actor Sean Penn has mourned the loss of conservative dynamo Charlie Kirk, saying we need people like him to inspire vigorous debate while respecting opposing viewpoints.

In an interview with the New York Times the One Battle After Another star said he disagreed with “almost everything” Kirk believed in but still held firm to the democratic belief that “we need” people like Kirk to promote frank, open discussion on social issues. He observed:

We need that debate. We’ve gotta fight it out and find a compromise. [Acts of political violence] do come into fashion, and the way we kill the fashion of it is people of conscience on both sides recognizing that if somebody really believes something, that’s your friend.

The 65-year-old added mutual respect and understand for opposing views is essential to living in a free society and people need to start recognizing differing viewpoints as “valid opinions.”

“I’m talking about if somebody believes that a human being starts at conception, if you can’t understand that concept, you’re just stupid,” Penn continued.

“And if you’re not willing to tolerate the concept as a concept that’s held as deeply as I may have a belief that, I don’t know, let the woman decide. All of these are valid opinions.”

Conservative influencer and co-founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University on September 10, as Breitbart News reported.

Police have since charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the murder.

Penn’s new movie One Battle After Another is released in theaters September 26.

Such a tragedy.  There will never be another Charlie Kirk.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Penn is lying.  He wanted Charlie dead like all the others.  But he's seeing the results of everybody who thought dancing on Charlie's grave was a great idea!
I don’t owe tolerance to people who disagree with my existence.
I will NOT comply.

I agree, there is nothing in Penn’s history of comments or actions that lead a an intelligent person capable of logic and reasoning to believe Penn’s statement. I seriously doubt this angry socialist had a come to JESUS moment after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that he and Kid Rock were Frenemies.

Dems don't want debates.  Why else do they ban conservatives from their campuses?

Universities and public schools have become the safe place for Marxist indoctrination, starting with the Global Climate Change hoax in gradeschool.
"Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it’s entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." - Alan Simpson, Frontline Video Interview

Bill Maher: “Would you have agreed to debate Charlie Kirk?… I bet you the answer is yes because that’s the kind of guy you are.”

Van Jones: “Yeah, listen Charlie Kirk and I were not friends and we were in a big big public fight the week he died… The day before he died he sent me a personal message wanting me to come on his show and he said… ‘Let’s disagree, agreeably.’”

“I’m going to carry those words with me because he was a words, not weapons, guy… We’re getting away from that now. I was very frustrated with people in my party throwing rocks at the corpse before he could even be buried. Blood still on the widow’s shoes, and people want to post every dumb thing he ever said. He was a 31-year-old kid.”

More Van Jones.  Defending Kirk and praising Trump in the same session.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
