An active shooter situation has been reported in Southport, North Carolina, according to social media posts.

Local residents are being advised to steer clear of the area as law enforcement investigates. Claims on Facebook suggest that multiple individuals have been injured, with one post reporting the sighting of six ambulances and a significant police presence.
 
The city of Southport disclosed on Facebook that there were reports of an active shooter at the Southport Yacht Basin. It was also reported by BNO News that three people were killed and six people were injured in the shooting. It comes as a death row killer died 'foaming at the mouth' following a chilling new execution method.

The city of Southport said in a statement: "There is an unknown number of injuries. Avoid the area and remain in your homes. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 911," per the Mirror US. City Manager Noah Saldo informed Star News Online that a boat approached the American Fish Company restaurant and fired into the crowd before fleeing the scene.

Three people were killed and several others were injured when someone on a boat opened fire on patrons of a waterfront eatery at a North Carolina marina on Saturday night, officials said.

The boat paused in front of American Fish Company at Southport Yacht Basin and a gunman opened fire, said ChyAnn Ketchum, spokesperson for the city of Southport.

Southport Police Chief Todd Coring said "possibly six" injured people were being treated at hospitals. Details on their conditions were unavailable. The city initially said eight people were injured.

The three people killed were not publicly identified early Sunday.

The shooter fled toward the adjacent Intracoastal Waterway, Ketchum said. The boat may have been headed toward the neighboring community of Oak Island, where authorities were continuing their investigation, Coring said.

A person of interest was being questioned late Saturday, the police chief said.

when you become aware of this guys issues, especially the mental issues, I want to know how he was able to have a gun. Is this another situation where the military did not make his mental issues available to he federal data base for background checks or did he acquire the weapon illegally?

This guy claims he was wounded in a friendly fire incident, four hits including one to the head. I have no idea if that’s true(the friendly fire part)or if he was a paranoid schizophrenic before the incident, but he sure as hell was after the head shot.

A 40-year-old Marine veteran who pulled up to a waterfront North Carolina bar by boat fatally shot three people Saturday night, authorities say, shattering the peaceful atmosphere of a community rarely touched by violent crime.

Out-of-towners were enjoying the warm weather and music on an outdoor deck at the American Fish Company in Southport, a small and tranquil city near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, when gunshots rang out. Eight people were injured and at least one victim “is now clinging for their life,” Jon David, district attorney for North Carolina’s Judicial District 5, said at a Sunday morning news conference.

Nigel Edge, who received a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq, was arrested Sunday and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, Southport Police Chief Todd Coring said Sunday. Police think Edge acted alone and said the attack was “highly premeditated.” CNN is working to identify whether Edge has an attorney.

Additional charges are still possible, Coring said. Edge was taken into custody when the US Coast Guard encountered his boat after the attack, according to Oak Island Police Chief Charles A. Morris II.  ...

There are lots of questions here about mental health history, medication, etc. The guy had served in the Marines and had a purple heart. What conditions surrounded that, and his disposition when he got back.

And to really reach, did someone send a bad batch of meds to troubled retired Marines? The church shooter in MI was said to have served as a Marine, also, to be the same age (40), and served in the Iraq war.
