Flying car company to test futuristic vehicles in US airspace: 'Uses less energy per trip than a Tesla'

Self-driving cars are quickly spreading across the country — could flying cars be next?

Alef, based in San Mateo, California, has secured agreements with two Silicon Valley airports to test the world's first flying car that can take off vertically from roads, per Interesting Engineering.

The company will begin operations at Half Moon Bay and Hollister airports, marking a major milestone for personal air transportation.

The fully electric vehicle promises to slash commute times and deliver surprising efficiency benefits.

As a licensed pilot, I can tell you the rules of the air road and concrete road are much different and far less forgiving as has been shown several times in Washington DC airspace.  To think of some of the numbskulls I see every day on the road flying around is as scary as it getsl

It gets better - the vehicle is supposed to qualify as as ultralight, so no pilot's license required.

Riding in a self driving car without being able to control it would be almost as terrorizing,.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Speaking of self driving cars... A bunch of Waymo cars drove themselves into flooded streets around Phoenix yesterday...

They've had flying cars since the 50's... you could argue a helicopter is sort of a flying car. It's not the technology, it's the safety, regulatory, and noise concerns.

It will never happen, period.

Considering there are a lot of people who can't drive in two dimensions, the thought of them bombing around in three is scary. Add in idiots who don't know what they don't know, and a few of the types who run down people in parades and at festivals, and this isn't going to be pretty. Then there will be those who have the money to 'rise above the rest', but not the skills...

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

You may find 'nobility' in a savage. But never forget that his first instinct is to kill you.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Flying cars?

Imagine if everyone had 'em.

That would solve "the population problem" pretty damn quickly...
