Trump promises Arab, Muslim leaders he won’t let Israel annex the West Bank
Politico, Sep 24, 2025

UNITED NATIONS — President Donald Trump promised Arab and Muslim leaders during a meeting Tuesday that he would not allow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the West Bank, according to six people familiar with the discussion.

Two of those people said that Trump was firm on the topic and that the president promised that Israel would not be allowed to absorb the West Bank, which is governed by the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas.

Another one of the people familiar with the talks noted that, despite Trump’s assurance, a ceasefire to end Israel’s nearly two-year war against Hamas was nowhere close to fruition. Two others familiar with the matter said Trump and his team presented a white paper outlining the administration’s plan to end the war, including the annexation promise and other details such as governance and postwar security.

Special envoy for peace missions Steve Witkoff provided some details on the proposal on Wednesday. “We presented what we call the Trump 21-point-plan for peace in the Mideast in Gaza,” he said at the Concordia summit in New York. “I think it addresses Israeli concerns and as well, the concerns of all the neighbors in the in the region.” Witkoff did not mention any comments about the West Bank.

Arab leaders have been frustrated by Trump’s opposition to the recognition of a Palestinian state and his continued support of Netanyahu’s assault on Hamas, which expanded beyond Gaza earlier this month when Israel tried to take out Hamas officials when they were in Qatar for peace talks. Going into Tuesday’s meeting, they aimed to impress on the U.S. president that any Israeli incursion into the West Bank would likely lead to the collapse of the Abraham Accords, two of the people familiar with the conversation said.

The signature foreign policy achievement of Trump’s first term, the accords marked the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab nations.

The 2020 Abraham Accords came after Israel had threatened to annex the West Bank and the United Arab Emirates offered to normalize ties in exchange for an Israeli promise not to do so, helping to kick off the U.S.-brokered effort that the Trump team hopes to expand.

Isolated as Ever, Netanyahu Will Try to Persuade Trump to Hold Out for Victory in Gaza
The UN General Assembly debunked Netanyahu's big lie and showed that contrary to his claim, Arab states, the U.S., and other Western countries all want Hamas removed from power.
Haaretz, Sep 24, 2025

[...]

The 80th United Nations General Assembly may have been the harshest yet toward Israel. Netanyahu, who for years sold himself as a diplomatic genius, who sneered at anyone who disagreed with him, who brushed aside every warning about Israel's deteriorating state, sat at home watching on TV as those he once considered allies turned their backs on him.

The Saudi-French initiative for recognition of a Palestinian state is gathering momentum, though it carries no immediate practical weight. Far more significant was the closed-door meeting of Arab and Muslim leaders with Trump at UN headquarters, where they discussed Gaza.

Attendees included the Emir of Qatar and Turkey's president. Their goal: to persuade Trump that an immediate end to the war was possible – Arab states would take control of Gaza, rebuild it, and push Hamas aside.

Strikingly, almost no details have leaked from this meeting into Arab media. A Qatari official who spoke with Haaretz refused to reveal what was said, but his tone suggested satisfaction. Israel, notably, was not invited – and not because of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.

On Monday, it will be Netanyahu's turn to meet Trump at the White House. His Friday speech will be intended for domestic consumption, as usual. He will repeat his "five conditions" for ending the Gaza war, but the real decisions will be made in Washington.

[...]

Netanyahu's objective is to convince Trump to wait just a little longer – that the imminent capture of Gaza City will transform the war. He's showing intelligence reports to friendly journalists – conveniently handpicked reports, that is – highlighting Hamas's dread of the city's imminent conquest. In his mind, just a few more months are needed, and then either victory will be achieved – or the next spin will be ready.

Trump has backed him so far, and Netanyahu wants more time against the mounting pressures.

At the heart of Trump's dilemma lies a simple question: what will remove Hamas from power faster – a deal imposed on Israel, with Arab states stepping in and ending the war, or the conquest of Gaza City?

Netanyahu's great deception is the myth that only he seeks to get rid of Hamas. This week's UN gathering underscored a consensus that has existed for two years and that Netanyahu has worked to downplay: Arab states, the United States, and the West all want Hamas removed from power and replaced by a normal civilian leadership.

Eight months into his presidency, Trump is still hard to read.

Which Trump will Netanyahu meet on Monday – the crazy uncle at the Rosh Hashanah table, or the businessman who can smell a lie? We'll find out on Monday.

I know exactly what the Arab States will do, same as they always do. It will be weaponized to attack Israel again as it always was.

I think the Arab states have accepted that after 80 years the State of Israel is there to stay.   Now, IMO, they want back into global commerce and some international help keeping Iran in check @Sighlass   This is why keeping and expanding the Abraham Accords is so important ----- these agreements really could give the Middle East a vehicle for a peaceful and prosperous coexistence.

But, the Israeli/Palestinian ongoing conflict needs to be over and out of the way for the next ME chapter to begin.
