Well Carson stayed mostly non partisan publicly, but during the Reagan years he definitely came right on the edge if not a bit over with his jokes and obvious facial reactions when the audience didn’t respond as he wanted. But both Carson and Leno were probably the best at even handedness and being non partisan. That all went in the crapper when the new late night ‘comedians’ took over.
