Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez (D) has called on President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard amid rising violent crime and police staffing shortages in the city. He argued that federal support is necessary to combat human trafficking, shootings, and gang-related violence tied to illegal immigrants. While conservatives have largely viewed the proposal as a practical safety measure, most Democrats have criticized it as politically motivated.
