I'm watching Charlie Kirk's memorial service.

It finally dawned on my why it is so important that the Left lie about us.

Our message is one of peace, love, equality of opportunity, tolerance, inclusion, justice and liberty.  It is a message that--when objectively understood--no decent American can help but embrace.

That embrace is what the Left fears.  They know they must distort our message, otherwise they would have virtually no followers.

That is why they must pretend we are racist, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, bigoted, fascist Nazis.

If they don't lie about us, they lose everything.

That's what I felt until I realized Trump was crediting these things to Charlie. None of it would have happened without Charlie.

It was a very beautiful and well planned memorial service.  I only wished that the ABC commentators would have held comments so that the bagpipes and Chris Tomlin could be heard.

I was wondering about this ..

Quote
Where Will Charlie Kirk Be Buried?

The memorial service is being held in Glendale, but Kirk will be laid to rest in Phoenix, which has been described as his "adoptive" hometown. His body has remained in the Hansen Mortuary Chapel since Vice President JD Vance escorted it back from Utah on September 11.

JD Vance just delivered some of the most powerful words ever spoken about Charlie Kirk.

The crowd hung on every word as the Vice President unleashed a firestorm.

“Charlie suffered a terrible fate, my friends. We all know it. We all saw it, but think it is not the worst fate.”

“It is better to face a gunman than to live your life afraid to speak the truth.”

“It is better to be persecuted for your faith than to deny the kingship of Christ.”

“It is better to die a young man in this world than to sell your soul for an easy life with no purpose, no risk, no love, and no truth.”

Goosebumps.

Excerpt:
In a moment that left the nation in awe and tears, Erika Kirk, the widow of assassinated conservative icon Charlie Kirk, took the stage at his memorial in Phoenix and delivered a speech that ranks among the greatest in American history. With poise, dignity, and a strength that could only come from deep faith, the former Ms. Arizona shared stories of her husband, their family, their love, and the powerhouse that is Turning Point USA.

He was wise far beyond his years.

Forgiveness without memory is surrender. Forgiveness with memory is strength.

That’s the difference between a people who get conquered and a people who rise again.

Today was the greatest showing of Christian grace and love since Pope John Paul II visited his would-be assassin (Mehmet Ali Ağca) in prison in 1983 and personally forgave him for what he tried to do.

(P.S., Mehmet Ali Ağca converted to Christianity in 2014.)

Political capital?  Is that what this is all about?

I didnt watch the funeral but saw snippets....Pyrotechnics? Selling merchandise?

I have expected to see Jesus showing up with a whip...

I think the people who organized Paul Wellstones funeral deserve an apology from their critics....

Sorry, loved Charlie but from what I have seen, I am turned off.....

I'll have to peruse the concordance for verses on God's official rules on how to conduct a celebration of life.

Why the pyrotechnics? TPUSA's comms director explains:

Because our staff loves the effect. They see it as one of our event signatures. And most importantly, Charlie loved it. We do not grieve the way the world grieves. We refuse to let the evil that killed Charlie rob us of our joy in remembering his incredible life and legacy.

Truth is, it's a matter of taste. As a fairly staid Presbyterian, I prefer a traditional church service, but this was not intended as such. Even an oldster like me, who cringes at most contemporary Christian music, appreciated it - like this guy:

@RyanKMcLemore
I understand why one might confuse a 6 hour event in an NFL football stadium might be confused for Sunday morning liturgy. But this was not and church service. The Lord works in mysterious ways, Brother. (And I told my wife that I wouldn’t want most of this “at church,”but again, this wasn’t a church service.

French Media Compare Charlie Kirk Memorial to Nazi Rally, Assassination to ‘Reichstag Fire’

The outpouring of emotion by the tens of thousands gathered in Arizona on Sunday to honour the life and legacy of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was viciously attacked in the French press, with some comparing the memorial to a Nazi rally.

I think the people who organized Paul Wellstones funeral deserve an apology from their critics....

Guess again @DominusVobiscum   Here's what made the Wellstone Memorial a campaign rally and was missing from the celebration of Charlie Kirk's life:

Quote
In the last portion of his speech, Kahn repeated a specific plea to everyone in attendance, including Republican Rep. Jim Ramstad.

"He needs you now, I am begging you please, let the people of this state hear your voice on his behalf to keep his legacy alive and help us win this election for Paul Wellstone," he said.

Kahn repeated the phrase "win this election for Paul Wellstone" a dozen times. Gov. Jesse Ventura walked out of the service before it was over and said he was "disgusted" that the memorial was being used as a political rally.

https://www.mprnews.org/story/2017/10/17/history-rick-kahn-turns-memorial-into-political-rally

Kahn's plea   pointing-up  was repeated by the speakers that followed him.

"Snippets" of a three plus hours long memorial means you know little to nothing about the tone and message of the event   You should adjust your judgements accordingly @DominusVobiscum

I watched quite a bit of it.  I was brought to tears a number of times by scenes of people lifting their hands in worship to the Lord, and didn't even try to count the number of times the message of salvation was shared in front of hundreds of thousands of people.  Marco Rubio was particularly impressive, in my opinion.

I'm not going to say it was a sedate event, but it definitely focused on Jesus more than politics.

The memorial definitely focused on Christianity and the profound impact Kirk's Christianity had on people.

As for Trump -- IMHO he would have been better off telling the story of how he met Charlie and kept his speech short and sweet and finished with a Bible verse.

He did embrace Erika Kirk at the end of the program that brought me to tears ... he absolutely is a very compassionate person and for that he deserves a tremendous amount of credit.
