Freezing cold early-season Arctic blast set to hit hundreds of thousands of Americans in just hours

Until now, temperatures throughout these areas along the Canadian border have been hovering in the 60s and 70s this summer.

When fall arrives on Monday, the NWS said that this sudden arctic chill will calm, and temperatures throughout the Northeast should rise back into the upper 60s.

AccuWeather added that the cool air was being pushed south by a Canadian high-pressure system, resulting in the major overnight drop; however, there's no rain following the cold front, so Americans shouldn't expect to see any early snowfall.

To protect your property during the freeze warning, officials recommended covering sensitive plants, including flowers, vegetables, and young trees, with blankets, tarps, frost cloth, or sheets.

As for outdoor plumbing potentially freezing, homeowners and businesses can wrap outdoor pipes, faucets, or sprinkler lines with pipe insulation, foam tubes, or heat tape available at many hardware stores.

Alternatively, people can also wrap pipes with towels, blankets, or bubble wrap and secure them with duct tape to keep them warm overnight.

Anyone in these areas are also recommended to turn off and drain outdoor faucets, hoses, and sprinkler systems, and also open the valves to let standing water drain out completely.

When water in unprotected pipes freezes during a cold snap, the ice expands and can burst the pipe, causing leaks, flooding, or costly property damage.

You may find 'nobility' in a savage. But never forget that his first instinct is to kill you.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Meh. We've had nighttime lows in the low 40s already.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Yup, it's Fall.

There could be some light frosts away from the coast.

No big whoop.

Let's see what the low temperaures are at the top of Mt Washington, NH.  They could be used as sensationalist click bait to scare the unwashed masses.

Oh, the horror!  It's not a Global Climate Change apocalypse.  Just another change of Seasons in New England.

The Fall foliage may be underwhelming because tree have been under stress from various degrees of drought.  The White Mountains (NH) and the Androscoggins (ME) are in severe drought.  The leaves may be less colorful and be early, especially with a cold(er) snap coming.

I hate it when the media gets alarmist about things that are not that out of the ordinary when you look at the weather records going back to the 1800s.

It's mid-September and the North is whining about 20s?
Our gardens are in and mostly put up - A few sprinkler systems might still be awaiting getting blown out, but most of that has happened too, because everybody is racing pell-mell into the no man's land of hunting season, when even critical services are lucky to have 1/3rd of their employees, and any work that requires men is put on auto-pilot.

If you ain't ready for winter by now, it's YOUR fault. Yeah it ain't likely, but there could be snow on the ground TOMORROW.

Dippin into the 20s is nothing.
