Why the US Army Faces a Recruiting Crisis
The US Army is facing its toughest recruiting challenge since the draft ended in 1973, falling 15,000 soldiers short in 2022 and projecting an even larger gap ahead. The reasons run deep: 77% of young Americans are ineligible to serve due to obesity, medical issues, debt, or criminal records, while fewer than 10% express interest in joining at all. With private companies, law enforcement, and even foreign militaries competing for the same shrinking talent pool, the Army is scrambling for solutions. From controversial ad campaigns to reshaping bootcamp traditions and focusing on retention through family support and career opportunities, the military must rethink how it attracts and keeps the next generation of soldiers—or risk falling behind in its war for talent.

Uh, maybe make being in the Army suck less.
Maybe military families should be treated better.
Maybe returning wounded and disabled combat veterans, and their families, should be treated better by DoD, VA, and HHS/SSA.
