Feels Like We're on the Deck of the Titanic As Zohran Mamdani Holds Overwhelming Lead in NYC Mayoral Race
Bob Hoge

Sometimes one can’t help but wonder, what were the passengers on the Titanic thinking as they realized that the unsinkable ship was actually going down and they were not going to be miraculously saved by a passing boat? Their first thought must have been, “I’ve got to get off this damn thing." As we know, a certain number were able to get disembark onto lifeboats and survive—but a whole lot more were left standing on the deck looking out at the freezing ocean, knowing this was the end.

I imagine that’s how a lot of New Yorkers are feeling these days.

Despite saying that he would go after the Big Apple’s wealthy, that he’s not particularly concerned about crime, and that he refuses to condemn the loaded phrase “globalize the intifada,” one of the most far-left politicians in America to make it this far—Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani—is looking like he’s virtually a shoo-in to be the next mayor of the United States’ most populous city.

That is, according to a new poll, at least:

Zohran Mamdani has opened a commanding lead in the race for mayor of New York City, buoyed by support for his affordability platform and by the splintered opposition, according to a new survey by The New York Times and Siena University.

The poll found that 46 percent of likely voters currently planned to choose Mr. Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, in a four-way race. His support spans racial and ethnic groups but is especially strong among young and highly educated voters.

The free shit cancer has taken hold. It has metastasized in other states too. Will we go quietly into the night?

Am looking forward with excitement, to his becoming Mayor of NYC.

I mean...how much more crazier can Mamdani be than Billy de Blasio??

He will be a complete disaster. The word "dystopia" comes to mind.

I'm giddy with excitement.  It's like watching a runaway train.  You know it it gonna crash and you want a front row seat to see the carnage!
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

It is a bit like a train wreck.  We don't want it to happen, but one can't look away either.   **nononono*

Heh.
I've BEEN ON a [almost] runaway train.
On the engine.
And I was the one who was runnin' it.
(I got lucky at the last moment, and recovered...)

Notwithstanding that I live in Nassau County and commute in to NYC every day for work, I cannot wait to watch the train wreck unfold.  NYC needs to learn the lesson good and hard a second time.  Hopefully whomever is president when the inevitable bankruptcy happens will take a page from Fords playbook and tell the city no bailouts.

Nope.  NYC didn’t get bailed out; they got put on an austerity budget run by the state government (which back then was not as leftist as it is now).

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
