French Government Collapses, Resignation Imminent

The government in France has collapsed yet again, and current President Emmanuel Macron will choose the country’s fifth prime minister in less than two years. Francois Bayrou, the current Prime Minister, lost a vote of confidence on Monday, as 364 members of parliament voted to remove him from office. He only managed to secure the support of 194 members to retain his government. Bayrou is expected to officially resign in a matter of days.

According to reports, the nation’s path forward from this point is unclear. The appointment of a new prime minister would leave them in essentially the same composition as their current government, along with the challenges of navigating a minority government.

All of this governmental instability comes at a crucial time for Macron, who has been working toward consolidating European powers behind Ukraine as Russia continues to advance in the eastern parts of the country.

One potential option available to the French president is to call a snap election to change the makeup of Parliament; however, recent poll results suggest that this move would result in a similar outcome, essentially changing nothing, according to Just the News.

Another path Macron could take would be to step down from his current position; however, given the statements he has made in the past, this seems unlikely.

Previously a member of the centre-right Les Républicains, the neo-liberal Lecornu joined Macron’s Renaissance faction in 2017 and has served in the cabinet of multiple prime ministers. He will become the fifth prime minister since President Macron was reelected for a second five-year term in 2022.

Commenting on his elevation, Lecornu said: “The President of the Republic has entrusted me with the task of building a Government with a clear direction: the defense of our independence and our power, the service of the French people, and political and institutional stability for the unity of the country.

“I wish to thank him for the confidence he has shown me by appointing me Prime Minister. I salute François Bayrou for the courage he demonstrated in defending his convictions to the very end.”

The prompt appointment of Lecornu, less than 24 hours after the National Assembly voted to oust fellow Macron loyalist Bayrou from power, comes despite Renaissance parliamentary leader and former PM Gabriel Attal advocating for the president to appoint a mediator to negotiate between the deeply divided parties in the French parliament to find a consensus candidate to implement an agreed-upon budget.

We saved them twice in the last century, and doubtless saved them the trouble of learning the Cyrillic alphabet.

Marine LePen would be a great improvement, especially if she could get the rest of their government on board.

If so, maybe the next time an invasion fleet crosses the Channel to save a country, it will be headed north.

The western European nations not falling to Islam are very few. UK, Belgium, Sweden, France, Germany, Spain ... it's ridiculous.
Time to plan a vacation in Poland or Hungary, I guess - the only two sane countries.

Well not the whole EU there are still a few countries like Hungary and Poland, Slovakia? that remember their history and refuse to be invaded by the moslems again.
