Jeffries says GOP will ‘regret’ revisiting Jan. 6

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) warned Republicans on Monday that they’ll regret their decision to reexamine the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Jeffries said Democrats will use their participation in a newly launched GOP investigation of the rampage to highlight President Trump’s role in fomenting the violence that day.

“Republicans will regret that they’ve decided to go down this road,” Jeffries told reporters in the Capitol.

Republicans last week voted to create a new Jan. 6 investigative committee, which will revisit the attack almost three years after the initial Jan. 6 select committee delivered its report blaming Trump for inciting the riot. The new panel also has powers to investigate the old one.

Republican leaders have defended Trump’s actions surrounding the attack, bashing the initial investigation as a one-sided witch hunt aimed solely at hurting Trump politically. They’re expected to use the new committee in an effort to exonerate their White House ally, who was impeached for a second time in the immediate wake of the 2021 riot.

“Our goal is to answer the remaining questions, uncover all the facts, and implement reforms so this level of security failure never happens again,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), who will chair the committee, said after the panel was created.

“It’s time to finish the job.”

Democrats have never left their propaganda passion play.

Questions remain.

Who planted the bombs?

Why did Michael Byrd shoot Ashli Babbit?

Why was security thwarted just enough to foment an incursion.

Who were the FBI infiltrators.

Who pulled down the fencing?

Why were flash bangs and pepper spray shot into the middle of the crowd instead of the front line.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday nominated California Rep. Eric Swalwell to be the top Democrat on the newly minted January 6 panel.

Georgia GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk, who led the House investigation into January 6 in the last Congress, will lead the new select subcommittee, which is investigating the riot, and the previously Democrat-run January 6 select committee.

Jeffries also selected Reps. Jasmine Crockett of Texas and Jared Moskowitz of Florida to serve as the other two Democrats on the panel. House Speaker Mike Johnson gets final approval of all members, but Jeffries is allowed to name three Democrats for the select subcommittee.

"Instead of lowering costs for everyday Americans, House Republicans are once again trying to rewrite history and corrupt our electoral system," Jeffries said in a statement. "House Democrats will continue to forcefully and aggressively push back, as we did with Donald Trump’s second impeachment and the work done by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol."

The new eight-member panel will operate under the House Judiciary Committee and will be required to release a final report by the end of 2026.

Johnson has not yet named the other Republican members of the committee.

To kick things off with this clown car, Jeffries named Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to be the lead Democrat on the new subcommittee.

And as you can expect, Swalwell took the mic and suggested J6 was just like other days that will live in infamy in our history, like Pearl Harbor and September 11, 2001. 

It’s almost too dumb to respond to. But here’s the clip and comments in full.

Swalwell says the three “most important dates in American history” since the Civil War are the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on “December 7, 1941, September 11th, and January 6th.”

He also called J6 the “worst of wrongs,” and he continued to draw a comparison between what happened that day and the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was next up, and she got a turn to say something crazy when she claimed that the GOP-led J6 subcommittee is nothing more than a distraction from President Donald Trump.
