Why biofuels are bad for the energy transition

By Leffert Oldenkamp.

The media consistently underplays the fact that the use of biofuels (biogas, biodiesel, biokerosene, and biomass) cannot achieve the intended results of their combustion, namely reducing CO2 emissions . Moreover, it drives up the costs of the energy transition, which is then mistakenly defended as a necessary price to become "green." Energy companies benefit from this. Below is an example of a newspaper article that outlines the problem.

Two articles in De Gelderlander of August 22, 2025, attempted to explain why energy will become more expensive, specifically the price of gas blended with biogas. The first article highlighted climate requirements and the related levies on energy supply. One would expect it to be made clear that introducing biogas blending would reduce greenhouse gas emissions . After all, that is the core of the current policy. But the reporter (Ton Voermans) neglected to address this. Even the obvious suggestion that energy taxes might be used to boost government coffers was ignored.

Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are finely aged biofuels.

It does not make economic sense to repurpose feedstock for fuel.

It does not make environmental sense to destroy forest to create palm oil plantations.

Burning our food instead of oil never made much sense to my pea brain.
I don’t owe tolerance to people who disagree with my existence.
I will NOT comply.

The reality is that despite all other arguments, the bottom line is biofuels will barely make a dent in the total fuel supplied by oil, even if we used every bit here on the entire Earth, and obviously that'd be a one time shot.
