Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson blames city’s violence problem on ‘red states’
 
As mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson oversees the city in the country with the highest number of homicides each year.

Despite this, Johnson has rejected the Trump administration's offer to deploy the National Guard to his city to help with Chicago's crime problem. Moreover, he has been outright critical of such overtures, likening them to an authoritarian takeover. On Tuesday, he blamed the city’s problem on so-called “red states,” claiming it was their supposedly loose gun laws that were contributing to Chicago’s violence.
 
“Chicago will continue to have a ‘violence problem’ as long as Red states continue to have a gun problem,” Johnson posted to his X account on Tuesday evening. “The endless flow of illegal guns into Chicago can be traced to Red states like Mississippi, Indiana, and Louisiana. It is up to the federal government to step up and stop interstate gun trafficking networks.”

Incidentally, Johnson did request the federal government’s assistance, but not for additional law enforcement officers or the National Guard.

Perhaps Mayor Johnson can explain why the UK, where there is no ready source of firearms still has a problem with violence among corresponding social classes to those causing Chicago's violence to the extent that they now debate "knife control", and talk about "knife crime" and "knife violence" the same way Democrats talk about "gun crime" and "gun violence".

Yeah, it's our fault in Arizona the Mayor of Shitcago can't put a lid on the violence in his shithole city.  I used to visit that place frequently back in the 70's, when I lived in Michigan.  That town had a soul then!

ATF Data: Guns Recovered in Illinois Are Largely From…Illinois

ATF gun recovery and trace data from 2023 for Illinois shows that Illinois is the state of origin from which the majority of guns are recovered/traced.

This runs counter to the left’s frequent claim that Chicago has a gun problem because other states do not have gun controls as stringent as those in Illinois.

According to the ATF data, 22,973 firearms were recovered or traced in Illinois in 2023. Of those, 9,147 were from Illinois and, in a distant second, 2,796 were from Indiana.

Beyond Indiana there were not even 1,000 guns recovered or traced with origins in another single state. (E.g., there were 952 recovered or traced from Missouri, 663 from Wisconsin, 390 from Tennessee, etc.)

The Second Amendment Foundation’s Kostas Moros commented on the ATF data via X, writing in part: “Also, note that a gun being from another state does not necessarily mean anything. Someone may have moved to Illinois, then had the gun stolen there, where it was used in a crime. The average time-to-crime of an Illinois traced gun is over 6 years, so the idea that this is guns being bought up in southern states then shipped to Chicago to be issued for service in gang warfare is ridiculous.”
