Kristi Noem Formally Announces Massive Federal Surge In Chicago

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed Sunday that a massive surge in federal assets will be directed to Chicago in the coming days. The announcement comes after President Trump suggested that he was willing to deploy National Guard personnel and federal agents to the Windy City in order to combat crime and accelerate deportation efforts.

During an appearance on “Face The Nation,” the secretary was asked about reports of a sprawling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chicago that could begin as early as next week. “When are those operations expected to start?” guest host Ed O’Keefe inquired.

He also asked whether the operations are set to be modeled after those in Los Angeles, which have been bolstered by military personnel following widespread anti-ICE riots in the city.

“Well, we’ve already had ongoing operations with ICE in Chicago and throughout Illinois and other states, making sure that we’re upholding our laws. But we do intend to add more resources to those operations,” Secretary Noem responded.

“I won’t disclose the details, because they are law enforcement and investigative folks that are on the ground there, and I wanna make sure we keep their security our number one priority. But we will continue to go after the worst of the worst across the country, like President Trump has told us to do, focusing on those that are perpetuating murder and rape trafficking of drugs and humans across our country, knowing that every single citizen deserves to be safe.”

At least five people have been killed and 30 others injured in shootings across Chicago over Labor Day weekend, including a drive-by attack that left seven victims wounded late Saturday night, according to police.

The violent holiday weekend came as President Donald Trump renewed threats to send federal agents and National Guard troops to Chicago over the objections of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Trump on Saturday sent a warning to the Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker in a post on his social media platform, referencing recent crime in Chicago and saying Pritzker "better straighten it out, FAST, or we're coming!"

Illinois Gov. Pritzker, a Democrat, responded in a news conference a week ago to an earlier Trump threat to "straighten out Chicago, just like we did D.C.," by saying that the president's plan was "unprecedented and unwarranted. It is illegal, it is unconstitutional, it is un-American."

Chicago Mayor Signs Order to Shield Criminal Illegal Aliens, Undermine Federal Immigration Enforcement

Chicago's far-left leadership just made its priorities crystal clear—criminal illegal aliens first, federal law second. Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) has signed an executive order aimed at blocking federal immigration authorities from doing their jobs in the city, even as Chicago grapples with out-of-control crime, an illegal immigration crisis, and mounting public frustration.

The order openly declares that city police will not assist federal agents in arresting or removing illegal immigrants, even those with criminal records. Instead, the city’s law department has been instructed to use “any and every legal mechanism” to target the federal government for trying to enforce immigration laws.

Johnson is already sounding the alarm about hypothetical scenarios of “militarized immigration enforcement” and “armed vehicles in our streets,” despite no such operations being underway. He’s using this as justification to cut off cooperation between Chicago police and federal immigration agencies, putting politics above public safety.

According to CNN, the executive order gives formal directives to city departments “in the midst of escalating threats from the federal government.” But the real “threat” appears to be the enforcement of immigration law—a duty clearly assigned to the federal government, not local politicians with political ambitions.
