China is building the world's first working thorium reactor using declassified US documents.

Chinese scientists have made a major breakthrough in clean energy by loading fresh fuel into a working molten salt thorium reactor.

They did this while the reactor continued to run, marking a major step forward in the global push to use thorium as a safer and more abundant alternative to uranium in nuclear energy.

The milestone was announced during a closed meeting on April 8 at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), where project leader Xu Hongjie shared the news with colleagues.
