WASHINGTON, D.C. — The first flight of the Air Force’s sixth-generation F-47 fighter will occur sooner than many would expect, the head of Boeing’s Phantom Works division said Aug. 29.
Boeing won the contract to develop the F-47 for the Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance program in March. Gen. David Allvin, the service’s chief of staff, posted a graphic on the social media platform X in May stating the aircraft would be operational sometime within the 2025-2029 timeframe.
Colin Miller, vice president and general manager at Boeing Phantom Works, said people will “be surprised by how fast you see [the F-47] flying.”
While declining to provide specifics due to the classified nature of the program, “I think it'll happen faster than normal,” Miller said during a fireside chat at the National Defense Industrial Association’s Emerging Technologies for Defense Conference and Exhibition.
