Katie Porter: Redistricting Will Pass Because Californians Feel ‘Picked On’ by Trump

Thursday on CNN’s “The Agenda,” Katie Porter, a candidate for California governor, said Californians will pass the new redistricting map because they have been “picked on” by President Donald Trump.

Porter said, “I am certain that we in California have an argument why we need to do this because everywhere I go, people are saying we have to stop Trump. He’s attacking our families, immigrant families. His tariffs that are driving up costs. He’s yanking away federal funding from universities. People want to know what can we do? And this is the answer to what we can do.”

Co-host Dana Bash said, “Are you confident that this is going to pass on the ballot measure in November?”

Porter added, “I am. Californians really feel frustrated. They feel picked on. And why do they feel picked on by Donald Trump? Because he has said he is picking on us. He has said he is out to get the state. He is out to punish the state. He’s out to decide for us how we should run our state. So I think Californians, even those who supported Donald Trump, do not like how these policies are being experienced on the ground. Look, the real challenge, Dana, is House Republicans would not be doing this. Donald Trump would not be pushing this. The Texas legislature would not be doing this if they had enacted policies in the last few months that were popular with the American people. They’re not going to campaign on the issues.”

I can believe Californians are frustrated. Unfortunately, they are blaming the wrong folks for the source of their frustrations. It is their own government that can't fill a reservoir to put out fires that should never have been that bad. It is the mismanagement of their state that has led to budget deficits, poor services, money wasted on projects going nowhere, expensive boutique gasoline and shut down refineries, streets full of illegals, lawbreakers, the homeless, and sidewalks paved with poo.

I'd be frustrated, too.

But I think I would take a long hard look at who gets the credit/blame for the mess there before I ran off blaming people who have little say in how things are actually run.

Did the stupid Biotch graph that out on her white board? If this moron believes that Californians feel more picked on by Trump, than decades of democrat governors, the last republicans term ended in 1999(you can’t count Ahhhhrnold), also democrats haven’t controlled the legislature for thirty years. So if she thinks Californians, who she has never really given a crap about, believe they are more picked on by Trump, she is ven stupider than I thought and that set a very low bar.

1. On one hand, Kammie got ~58.5% of CA votes in 2024. OTOH, the redistricting commission Noisome is trying to "temporarily" suspend was created by voter-passed initiatives motivated by voters' weariness with the legislature's gerrymandering. There is a significant chance that CA voters could prove Porter wrong.

2. FWIW, Porter is, apparently, the current leader in polls for the Dem goobernatorial nomination.
