Traffic stop turns violent as suspect allegedly resists arrest on U.S. 1

 
MONROE COUNTY, Fla. - A 40-year-old Marathon man was arrested on Monday, August 18, 2025, following a violent altercation with a U.S. Border Patrol agent during a traffic stop.

Victoriano Lopez Palencia was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office and now faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
 

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:09 p.m. when the Sheriff’s Office received a call from U.S. Border Patrol. An agent reported that a man he had detained during a traffic stop on U.S. 1, identified as Lopez Palencia, had allegedly battered him. According to reports, Lopez Palencia kicked and elbowed the agent during the confrontation.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
