The West Texas Measles Outbreak Has Ended
« on: August 18, 2025, 04:31:48 pm »
https://www.wired.com/story/the-west-texas-measles-outbreak-has-ended/

A large measles outbreak in Texas that has affected 762 people has now ended, according to an announcement Monday by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The agency says it has been more than 42 days since a new case was reported in any of the counties that previously showed evidence of ongoing transmission.

The Texas outbreak began in January in a rural Mennonite community with low vaccination rates. More than two-thirds of the state’s reported cases were in children, and two children in Texas died of the virus. Both were unvaccinated and had no known underlying conditions. Over the course of the outbreak, a total of 99 people were hospitalized, representing 13 percent of cases.

Did I miss something? I don't remember measles as being a killer...

Dunno. Two dead. I don't recall measles being deadly, but maybe I missed it.

Well, I have read it was in the 1800's. But heck, every disease was deadly then.

As a kid, we all had measles. It was a part of growing up. The only thing I can think of now that has caused measles to be deadly again is a lack of immune systems.  We played outside, in the dirt and only went to the doctor if we were close to death.  Or that was my childhood. The kids these days are inside on the computer (different infection all together :rolling:) and if they so much as sneeze...go to the doctor for antibiotics.

That was my childhood, too, and there was the occasional tetanus shot from stepping on a nail or running afoul of rusty barbed wire. For the most part, we got sick, we got well, and moved on. Considering all the stuff we messed with or got into, our immune systems had an early workout, but Mercurochrome and Iodine and hydrogen Peroxide  were good friends.

We were expected to get measles and chicken pox, because the goal was immunity. I remember getting the measles vax, which promptly gave me measles.

Funny how the measles problem went away as soon as the border was secure.  :pondering:

Innit, tho?

It was disgusting IMHO how the media and the Left tried to originally blame the outbreak on the Mennonite population that lives out there.

Anyone who grew up in W Texas as I did knew it wasn't them because they'd live for generations out there and it had never been a problem.

We will continue to see deflection from the people who also seem to think that we should retain violent offenders, murders, pedophiles, human traffickers and the like, even though they are here illegally.

They will not accept responsibility for the damage they have done and will find someone/thing to blame it on besides what the real problem is (the invasion of the US by tens of millions of illegals at Biden's behest).

You can see that in how the MSM...whom you can never hate enough...fails to cover certain stories because of the illegal alien aspect to them...the latest I'm aware of is the illegal from India who somehow managed to get a CDL and ended up killing a family of 3 in FLorida when he made an illegal U Turn on a busy highway
